In the weeks leading up to the election, my team was asked to create a tool that would make it easy for volunteers to discover, explore, and sign up for volunteering opportunities in their community.

What we created was an easy-to-use volunteer sign-up tool that gave our supporters a number of ways to get involved. Think Tinder, but for volunteering. Volunteering recommendations were personalized based on the user’s geolocation. Swing state voters, for example, saw a different set of suggestions than voters in solidly blue states. Our intelligent ranking algorithm ensured that each person would be presented with a high-impact action, no matter their location. In just a few weeks, this tool helped us schedule over 30,000 volunteer shifts all across the country.
